Three Things You Need to Know on May 8th

May 8, 2019

One student was killed and several others wounded following a shooting at STEM School Highlands Ranch yesterday afternoon.  The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says the victims are ages 15 and up.  Two suspects were taken into custody, with one being identified as 18-year-old Devon Erickson.  The other is a juvenile.  STEM School Highlands Ranch is closing for the rest of the week.  The Douglas County School District says all other facilities will be open, but will have increased security.  The district is setting up a crisis support center today at a local church that will be open to all students, faculty and staff.

It looks like the mayoral race in Denver is heading for a runoff.  Mayor Michael Hancock and challenger Jamie Giellis are expected to go head to head on June 4th.  So far, it appears neither will come away from yesterday's election with a solid majority of the votes.

It's win or go home for the Colorado Avalanche tonight.  The team is in San Jose, skating a against the Sharks in game seven of round two of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.  The winner moves on to the Western Conference Finals.  The last time the Avs won a game seven was back in 2002 against the Sharks.  Puck drop tonight is 7 p.m. Mountain Time.
