AUDIO: Science Says You Can't Turn Down Donuts

June 18, 2018

Foods with a ton of fat and carbohydrates, like donuts, french fries, pizza, well pretty much all junk food, might actually be irresistable. Yale researchers have found that foods that combine fat and carbs create a powerful reward in the brain. Ironically, foods containing the magic fat-carb combo don’t exist in nature, except for breast milk. The results at least partly explain rising rates of obesity.

Besides doing out best to resist donuts, one key to good health is getting enough sleep each night. But how much do we really need? Researchers now say we need at least 8.5 hours, not the previous requirement of 8. Our brains process information when we sleep, and in the information age, we're bombarded with it daily, so that extra half hour is needed. The average American only gets about 7 hours of sleep a night.

Do you know how to change a tire? According to a new survey of 2,000 car owners, 36 percent don't know how to fix a flat. The survey also found that nearly half of American car owners couldn't change their car's oil -- and one-in-four don't know how to jump start a car.
