Queen Week: Mike Casey's Top 5 Favorite Queen Tunes

November 2, 2018

It's QUEEN WEEK on 99.5 The Mountain!

Hey, I'm Mike Casey, morning show host on The Mountain. I've been tasked w/ providing my favorite Queen tunes and here they are:

5.  You're My Best Friend - one of the few big Queen songs written by the bassist, John Deacon.  It's a bit sappy, but boy what a melody!  Sing-a-long masterpiece!

4.  Another One Bites the Dust - Came out when I was maybe 12.  My buddy Darren and I basically stole the 45 rpm single from his older sister and played the thing so many times in a row I think we wore out the grooves.

3.  Fat Bottomed Girls - Well, jeez.  Long before the Kardashians or Beyonce, Brian and Freddie were reminding us exactly who makes the rockin' world go round.  What else do you need to know?

2.  Keep Yourself  Alive - While Queen's hallmark is Pop-Opera they could rawk it pretty hard when they wanted to.  Great example of Brian May guitar riffing!

1. Crazy Little Thing Called Love - I think it's their only #1 hit!  I love the idea of this kind of over the top Glam band doing what is essentially a straight ahead Rockabilly song that could've come from the Elvis catalog! If I'm not mistaken, it's the first (and possibly only time) Freddie played a guitar on a Queen record and he came up with the idea while taking a bath in Hamburg. Which seems like a VERRRRRY Freddie thing to do.
