Three Things You Need to Know on February 7th

February 7, 2019

Yesterday's snow may have stopped, but we're still in for a cold and wintery day today. CDOT had plows out most of yesterday pre-treating and clearing the pavement, but roads are still slick and icy in some spots. The National Weather Service has a forecast high for today in the upper teens. Jeffco and Denver Public Schools are also closed for the day.

Teachers with Denver Public Schools could be walking the picket lines as soon as Monday.  The new February 11th strike date was set yesterday after state labor officials announced they would not intervene in the pay dispute between the union and the district.  Teachers had voted in favor of a strike last month, but that was put on hold while labor officials decided whether to get involved as requested by the district.  Despite the Monday walkout date, both sides are expected to meet tomorrow in hopes of coming to an agreement.

Good news for people who have long been waiting for a train! The Regional Transportation District is a step closer to finally getting the G-Line running.  The RTD announced yesterday that it has received two important approvals from the Federal Railroad Administration.  The agency called it a major milestone, though the line still needs more approvals before it can begin regular service.  The route to Arvada and Wheat Ridge was supposed to open in 2016.
