Three Things You Need to Know on October 16th

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is in Saudi Arabia. Pompeo talked with King Salman about missing Saudi journalist and U.S. resident Jamal Khashoggi. Khashoggi went into the Saudi consulate in Istanbul October 2nd where Turkish authorities believe he was murdered. Saudi Arabia has denied this, although there are reports the kingdom is preparing to say he was killed during an interrogation gone badly. 

America's budget deficit is the highest in six years. The Treasury Department reports the deficit for the 2018 fiscal year that ended September 30th totaled 779-billion dollars. That's higher than any year since 2012. Economists say the wider deficit is due to increased government spending and the corporate in individual tax cuts Congress passed last December. 

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen has died at the age of 65.  He died yesterday from complications of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in Seattle.  Allen founded Microsoft alongside Bill Gates in 1975.
