May 23, 2019

A aviolent tornado slammed into Jefferson City, Missouri last night. Emergency teams are searching for people trapped in the rubble of damaged and destroyed buildings this morning. Authorities say damage in parts of the state capital is catastrophic. Elsewhere, in Golden City at least three people were killed when tornadoes hit that area. Missouri state government offices are shutting down today.

Denver is closer to its seasonal average for snowfall following the latest storm.  The National Weather Service has the current total at just over 48 inches, which is more than the last two winters combined.  The average is just over 57 inches.  The latest storm dropped nearly four inches on the city this week.  It's part of what's been a wet start to 2019 across Colorado.

The late snow is great news for skiers and snowboarders. Breckenridge has extended its season, adding the first two weekends in June.  It's the latest in a handful of Colorado ski areas to add more time to the season due to recent snow.  Breckenridge will be open daily through Monday.
