Three Things You Need to Know on January 29th

The State of the Union address is now scheduled for February 5th. President Trump has accepted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's invitation to give the speech in front of a joint session of Congress. Earlier this month, Pelosi canceled her first invitation to Trump to deliver the State of the Union address because of the government shutdown. 

The utility company liable for damages in Northern California's deadly Camp Fire is declaring bankruptcy.  Pacific Gas & Electric filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection today, citing wildfires in 2017 and 2018.  PG&E's liability from those disasters is in excess of 51-billion dollars.   

The commute yesterday was a nightmare, not matter your mode of transportation. The Denver metro area got a little more than it bargained for out of the latest winter storm.  It moved in early yesterday, dropping nearly a foot in some locations.  The National Weather Service had predicted only a couple inches to fall around the city.  The storm led to dozens of crashes in the metro area, road closures and even some flight delays and cancellations at DIA.  One person is being treated for serious injuries after being ejected from an RTD train.  It happened aboard the R-Line yesterday morning near South Sable Boulevard and Exposition Avenue in Aurora.  Investigators say the train derailed, throwing the passenger.  Other people on board suffered minor injuries.  The accident is still under investigation.
