Three Things You Need to Know on July 23rd

Boris Johnson will be the new prime minister of Great Britain.  He was elected the leader of the UK Conservative Party this morning and will take over the prime minister role tomorrow, replacing Theresa May as that country struggles with a way to implement Brexit and leave the European Union. 

The Trump administration wants to make it easier to deport illegal immigrants who have been in the U.S. less than two years. The Department of Homeland Security will issue a notice saying it's expanding "expedited removal," giving authorities permission to detain and deport immigrants quickly without seeing an immigration judge. 

Governor Jared Polis will be announcing Colorado's new Poet Laureate today.  That position has recently been held by award-winning author Joseph Hutchison.  The Poet Laureate serves a four-year term and is selected by the governor.  Today's announcement is scheduled for noon in the west foyer of the state Capitol.
