Three Things You Need to Know on March 7th

Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek says he has been diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer.  In a YouTube announcement Wednesday, the 78-year-old Trebek vowed to keep working as he fights the disease.  Trebek has hosted Jeopardy! since 1984. 

The House is taking up a bill to more than double the federal minimum wage.  The House Committee on Education and Labor yesterday approved a bill raising the federal minimum wage to 15-dollars an hour, more than double the current 7-25 an hour, and would be phased in by 2024.  It would phase out so-called subminimum wages for workers who get tips, as well as young workers, and workers with disabilities. 

Colorado officials have closed Interstate 70 over Vail Pass due to weather conditions and an avalanche.  The interstate is closed in both directions and the Colorado State Patrol says it will probably take a while for crews to clear enough snow to let traffic through.  CSP says drivers can use Highway 91 to Highway 24 as a detour, but says extreme weather and road conditions will also affect that route.
